March 2026 News & Highlights
|
Dear Cville Schools community –
Each month I go to our schools to deliver Royal Recognitions to some incredible staff (get to know recent winners below). We always have a great time surprising staff members with gifts and a check, Publishers Clearing House–style. But what is truly the best part is witnessing the pure pride and joy that the students feel about their teachers. Whether it’s their math specialist, their custodian, or their 4th grade teacher, they hoot, they hug, they high-five. It never gets old. Our students are so invested in these adults because these adults are so invested in them.
At this time of year, as we’re all powering toward Spring Break, take a moment to tell a staff member what they mean to your student. Send a ParentSquare message, holler it in the car pick-up line, or work with your child to write a card. They will certainly appreciate being appreciated.
Thanks as always for your partnership.

CHS freshman Xavier Masri got an up-close look at how Virginia's state government operates this semester by serving as the Head Page for the House of Delegates in Richmond. The House of Delegates' Page program, which began in 1847, brings students from across Virginia to the state capital to work alongside lawmakers and gain valuable work and life experience. As a Page, Masri assisted delegates during chamber proceedings and helped visitors find their way around the state capital building. He also had the opportunity to work alongside state lawmakers such as Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell and Charlottesville delegate Katrina Callsen. Watch the story on NBC29.

Last week, Charlottesville Middle School students showcased their “BioBots” at the UVA Rotunda. As part of a multi-month project, each student picked a living organism, then built a “BioBot” robot that mimicked that organism and its adaptations, below. While participating in the showcase, CMS students also got to tour the UVA Link Lab, above, where they interacted with scientists and researchers, and saw demos of their work in robotics, engineering, and cyber-physical systems.
